Justin Dowel and Matt Lee have finished sixth in Heat 2 of Rally
Queensland after another strong performance which netted them fifth
place overall in round four of the Australian Rally Championship.
Over the seven stages and 114 competitive kilometres of Heat 2, the
Activ RallySport Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX took three top five stage
times, ensuring they retained their fifth place in the national
championship.
“After the disappointment of Western Australia where we rolled the car, this is a fantastic result,” Dowel said at the finish on the Sunshine Coast.
“We were determined to bring the car home in one piece this weekend, with the plan to rebuild our confidence and maintain our top five championship position, which is exactly what we’ve done.
“I’d like to pay full credit to Johnny (Down) and the guys who have built the car and kept it running all weekend. It has been an awesome job by everyone, and it’s such a good feeling to get a good result to repay them.”
The Activ RallySport crew now set their sights on the next round of the Australian Rally Championship, the Coffs Coast Rally in NSW, on June 27 and 28.
NEWS FROM OUR RIVALS
Simon Evans was again in dominant form in his Lancer Evo IX, winning the day ahead of the Toyota Corollas of Glen Raymond and Neal Bates. Evans’ victory gives him the lead in the Australian Rally Championship, with two rounds still to come.
Young chargers Ryan Smart (Mitsubishi) and Brendan Reeves (Subaru) took fourth and fifth, but Eli Evans’ hopes were dashed when his engine ingested water and failed mid-way through the day.
