Activ RallySport’s Justin Dowel and Matt Lee did their bit for club rallying when they ran as zero car at the Mt Porepunkah Rallysprint near Bright in north east Victoria on September 12.
Dowel and Lee used their Australian Rally Championship experience to drive over the stages before competition began, ensuring that everything was in readiness for the competing cars.
The team also used the event as a mini test session for the Activ RallySport Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9.
“It was a great experience and it was a pleasure to be able to put a
little bit back into the sport by assisting as officials for the
event,” Dowel said.
“We had a few niggling turbo problems with the car, so not only were we
able to help the North Eastern Car Club with their event, but we were
able to do further testing on the car in readiness for our next event.”
Co-driver Matt Lee, a regular competitor and official at club rallies,
also enjoyed bringing the team back to grass roots rallying.
“The Mt Porepunkah event has always been a fantastic fun day out, while
providing club competitors with an opportunity to taste things like
pacenotes and A-A timing, without the higher costs normally found in
State and National events. It’s a pleasure to help the NECC, and a
bonus that we found a couple of bugs in our car at the same time,” Lee
said.
After finishing a superb fifth in this year’s Australian Rally
Championship, the Activ RallySport team are now preparing for a tilt at
next year’s national title.
The next event for the team will be a round of the Victorian Rally
Championship, the fully pacenoted Akademos Rally, on October 18.
